The Mana series (known as Seiken Densetsu in its native Japan) is turning 30 very soon, and one present that fans of the series will be able to enjoy is an official anime adaptation, titled Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal. Announced in the 30th anniversary live stream for the Mana franchise, Square Enix (the developers behind the long-running JRPG series) revealed that Warner Bros. Japan will produce the adaptation, although no official air date has been set.
The studios behind the project have also been revealed in the Mana 30th anniversary live stream as Graphinica and Yokohama Animation Lab, who previously collaborated to make the new opening cinematic movie for the remastered version of the original 1999 Legend of Mana game released on June 24 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.
Masaru Oyamada, producer on the Mana series at Square Enix, said this regarding the anime series and the latest remaster:
So rumor has it, that’s how the HD remaster project began.
Fans of the “Legend of Mana”, please be assured. The people involved in the project still have the love for the series just the same as back then.”
Legend of Mana is the fourth game in the Mana series, originating from what was renamed in the West as Final Fantasy Adventure (1991) for the Nintendo Game Boy, and then followed up with Secret of Mana (1993) for the SNES, Trials of Mana (1995) for the SNES (originally only released in Japan until the 2020 remake came out for modern platforms in the West), and of course, Legend of Mana (1999) for the original PlayStation.
