We all have our gaming guilty pleasures. You might not be able to resist belting out that solo in your favorite music/rhythm game. Or perhaps you condemn Kinect games in public, but secretly love failing your arms like an idiot when no one’s around to see. Me? I can’t get enough of the LEGO games. Though undoubtedly marketed toward younger audiences, there’s something to be said about the simplicity and charm they bring to some of the most beloved franchises in entertainment.
Thanks to a report from MCV, packaging for LEGO’s new line of LotR toys reveals that Frodo and the Fellowship are making a trip to the LEGO universe. UK retailer ShopTo also posted a listing for a LEGO Lord of the Rings game, which detailed the game’s box art and an October 2012 release date.
A LEGO game featuring the Lord of the Rings trilogy was really inevitable considering the success that the LEGO series has produced and the number of franchises it’s included. The timing of the release also couldn’t be more perfect. The game, if released on schedule, will give fans two months of LEGO goodness before the December release of The Hobbit‘s theatrical debut, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Traveller’s Tales will reportedly be developing the game as it has done with every previous LEGO installment since securing the LEGO license back in 2004. Since then, the developer has done an excellent job of providing a new twist and comedic take on such revered entertainment franchises like Harry Potter, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones. More details are sure to be right around the corner as the E3 madness begins to heat up.
