‘Lena Waithe is making an adaptation of the novella The Book of Mycah for Warner Bros. Television Group. Joshua Bennett wrote the story and is a professor of English and creative writing at Dartmouth College. It takes place in a reality in which Malcolm X returns from the dead in 1965. Bennett’s other works include The Study of Human Life and The Sobbing School. Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani under Hillman Grad Productions will be executive producers of the adaptation for Warner Bros. Television Group. Sylvia Carrasco will oversee the entire production. Hillman Grad has an overall deal with Warner Bros. and is making the half-hour single-camera skater comedy Rollin’. The production company produced the series adaptation of Steve James’ 1994 movie Hoop Dreams. Lena Waithe has been busy with producing, acting, and screenwriting for multiple projects on top of The Book of Mycah adaptation.

Lena Waithe Has Turned into a Hollywood Powerhouse

The actor started out as an executive producer for the series Girlfriends. She later snagged a job as a writer on the hit Fox series Bones. Now Lena Waithe is the producer of the series Boomerang and Twenties. She wrote and produced the film Queen & Slim. The next endeavor for Waithe is the adaptation for Warner Bros. Television Group of the novella “The Book of Mycah”. Waithe has gotten bigger and bigger projects through her production company Hillman Grad Productions. She’s the first Black woman to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series through her work on Master of None. The adaptation by Waithe of The Book of Mycah comes as no surprise. This is just the beginning of her big-budget projects.

There are no details surrounding the casting of the Warner Bros. Television Group adaptation. Judging from the casting of Waithe’s prior projects, she’ll know who would best work in the roles.
