Hamilton star and Oscar-nominated actor Leslie Odom Jr is set to star in Knives Out 2 alongside Daniel Craig and an ensemble cast. He joins the franchise with Kathryn Hanh, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, and Janelle Monae.
Directed by Rian Johnson, 2019’s Knives Out followed a detective investigating the death of a family member in a dysfunctional wealthy household. Johnson came up with the basic concept of Knives Out in 2005 but was not able to write the screenplay until 2017. The film was sold to distributors at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The movie starred big names like Christopher Plummer, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Don Johnson, among many others.
It was reported in March 2021 that Netflix had agreed to pay for the rights to two sequels to be written and directed by Johnson, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc. It is unclear what the movie’s plot will be but, but it will follow Benoit Blanc solving another complicated mystery.
Odom was nominated for two Oscars for Best Actor in A Supporting Role for 2020 film One Night in Miami… for playing Sam Cooke, and for Best Original song for the movie directed by Regina King. He won a Tony Award for his striking performance as Aaron Burr in the broadway musical Hamilton. It is unclear what character Leslie Odom Jr is set to play in the sequel of Knives Out. His upcoming projects include New Line’s Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark and John Ridley’s sci-fi feature Needle in a Timestack.
