In August 2021, Letitia Wright suffered a motorcycle accident on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In an interview with Variety for a cover story for the upcoming Marvel film, she opened up about her injuries and how she is recovering to this day.
The accident in question for Letitia Wright involved a chase sequence being filmed in Boston. She was riding a motorcycle with a “biscuit rig” attached for the camera to film her while riding on location. Producer Nate Moore said it “clipped a median” that led to her fracturing her shoulder, a concussion, and other injuries.
“I’m still processing it,” she said. “I’m still working through it in therapy. It was really traumatic.”

When shooting the scene, the actress who plays hero T’Challa’s scientific sister, Shuri, was with the second unit. The main team, including director Ryan Coogler and Moore, were in Atlanta and had to hear about it on the phone. Coogler referred to her as a “sister,” and getting the call was the “f—ing worst thing in the world.” He and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige visited her in the hospital, where she told them she wanted to “finish my film.”
“I just remember wanting to finish my film, man. I think that was one of the first things I said to Ryan. And he was like, ‘Tish, you need to recover.”
Letitia Wright went home to London to recover after her accident. Filming was shut down in November of that year and resumed in January 2022. Even when she returned to set to wrap her scenes as one of the leading characters, it was still difficult as she still suffered some side effects from her injuries, particularly post-concussion syndrome.
Those “adversities” also include the passing of Chadwick Boseman at 43 from colon cancer in 2020. The entire film had to be reworked as they decided almost immediately not to recast him and instead serve it as both an MCU sequel and a memorial to give him a proper goodbye. On top of a pandemic to navigate, the film had gone through plenty of difficulties that the cast and crew had to overcome.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters this week on November 11.
