LeVar Burton has spoken up about the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard.  Burton told Yahoo, “This season of Picard is a love poem to Next Generation, and we get to see these people that we grew to know and even love at this new point in their lives.” Since April, we’ve known that Star Trek: Picard’s final season would reunite the Next Generation cast. Burton describes this reunion as “a blast” and “a great gift.” This cast has not been on screen together since the Star Trek: Nemesis film in 2002. Burton has said that this will be his final time portraying his character Geordi. The third and final season of Picard is looking to be a proper send-off for the Next Generation characters after the planned sequel to Nemesis fell through.

Burton is returning to his role from Next Generation along with Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner. Whoopi Goldberg reprised her role as Guinan in the second season. It is unknown if she will return for the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard.

Burton recently trended on Twitter for reasons unrelated to Star Trek: Picard. Along with his role in the Star Trek franchise, Burton is known for hosting the children’s show Reading Rainbow from 1983 to 2006. That show is the topic of his new documentary Butterfly in the Sky. While promoting that documentary, Burton appeared on The View, where Joy Behar asked him about banning books in schools. Burton called the bans “Bulls—. He elaborated saying, So read the books they’re banning. That’s where the good stuff is. If they don’t want you to read it, there’s a reason why.”
