Level-5’s latest game, Ni No Kuni 2, is finally available on PlayStation 4 and PC, but the developer is already hard at work planning for its next big title.

Level-5’s president and CEO Akihiro Hino recently sat down with Japanese publication 4Gamer for an interview with Bandai Namco to talk about the studio’s 20th anniversary, which they’ll celebrate later this year.

During the interview, Hino began to tease fans with the studio’s next project, which will have a “modern day” setting with an ambitious scale. “We do have an idea,” Hino said in the interview, as translated by Gematsu. “I’m not sure if we can call it an MMORPG or not, but we plan to make a big title on the same scale as one. Since were going into our 20th year, we want to make something we like.”

Hino went on to say that the game in question won’t be released this year, but he made the announcement early because of the studio’s 20th anniversary celebrations. Hino also didn’t reveal much about the title other than its setting and scale, so what the game might look and play like is still unconfirmed at this time.

This news will come as a surprise to fans of Level-5 games. Level-5 isn’t known for making modern-day style games, as the developer has usually found success with fantasy settings. Ni No Kuni and Yo-Kai Watch have had elements of modern-day worlds in their games, however, but they weren’t the main focus of the series.
