Witness Square Enix’s latest trailer for FF13: Lightning Returns. The special trailer was pieced together because the game has just launched in Japan. The footage was made exclusively using the game’s engine, but features no scenes from the game itself. Everything is explained in the following synopsis, found in the description of the YouTube video;

“Today is the launch day for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in Japan — woo-hoo! First off, we’d like to wish our team in the East all the best with the launch. And secondly, our exceptionally talented development team have kindly put together a funky machinima sequence which (hopefully) condenses the magnitude of the story, gameplay and characters.

We’ve got another three months before it’s out in the West, but if that doesn’t get you excited for Lightning’s return, we don’t know what will! Also, none of the scenes in the clip actually appear in the final game; this was a kind of mini project for our dev team, using the game engine to create a new trailer.”

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII releases February 11th in North America and 3 days later in Europe.

Thanks, OXM.
