2019 is the Year of The Legend of Zelda

Despite being a year or two out from a significant Zelda title release, this year might need to be dubbed as the year of the Legend of Zelda. In 2019 we’ve seen Link’s Awakening and Cadence of Hyrule released for Switch. In addition, we had a surprise announcement of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2. We’re almost at the end of 2019, and we have another Zelda related announcement! Zelda’s Link is coming to Super Mario Maker 2 on December 5th, free to all players.

Let me go ahead and answer the question all of you are thinking. The Master Sword will be in the game! The new item will be available only in the 8-bit Super Mario Brothers, the power-up will turn Mario into Link. It’s more than just for looks. In classic Link style, players will be able to fight with the Master Sword and block attacks with their shield. The new addition doesn’t end there, and Link can shoot arrows. Unlike Mario, Link will be able to hit faraway switches. He’ll have his classic down thrust sword move to fight stronger enemies. Link can also blow stuff up with his bombs, such as walls that Mario couldn’t possibly hope to pass, plus he will also have his thrust move resembling the old school Pegasus Boots.

The new update will have a couple of classic Mario enemies. Spike and Pokey will join the fray. There will also be the Frozen Coin, and the coins are surrounded by a block of ice. They can only be released if melted by fire of any kind. The P Block is also coming. When the switch is hit, invisible “P blocks” will temporarily turn into platforms. Lastly, the Dash Block. This one is available in Super Mario 3D. The block gives Mario a significant speed boost when stepped on.

Other than Link there the biggest addition to the Ver 2.0 update is Ninji Speedrun. Players will run courses made by Nintendo. The courses are timed, and during it, “Ninji Ghosts” will be running alongside you. These ghosts are represented by other players from across the globe. Also, each Speedrun will be an event that lasts around a week. The games will rank players by their time on the course. Have no fear, though, as you’ll still be able to run the courses for fun after the event ends.
