Live A Live, the remake of the 28-year-old Japanese-exclusive Square Enix RPG, launched on the Nintendo Switch on July 22, 2022. Recreated using the developer’s unique “HD-2D” style, this narrative-heavy title weaves together the lives of eight people from various eras, all facing their own life-changing perils. Anyone who’s familiar with classic JRPGs should expect that Live A Live has surprising difficulty curves, and that’s where knowing how to save the game manually can be the difference between a simple retry or wasting another hour of progress.

How to Save Your Game in the Live A Live Remake

To manually save your Live A Live playthrough, all you need to do is press X on your Joy-con to open the main menu, then press the + button to save. Just like most RPGs out there, there’s no limit on how many times you can save your progress, and the game also provides players with lots of save slots. With that in mind, don’t be afraid to save often in Live A Live. Nevertheless, even if you forgot, Live A Live also features an auto-save function (which usually triggers after important cutscenes and encounters), similar to most modern RPGs.

Speaking of saves, you can transfer your save file from the Demo Version to the full game. The demo, which can be downloaded through Nintendo eShop, features three chapters of the game:

  • “Imperial China.”
  • “The Distant Future.”
  • And “Twilight of Edo Japan.”

The first two chapters are considered the easiest chapters in the game, while the last one might challenge even die-hard JRPG fans. The full version of Live A Live has eight chapters, all featuring different main characters and time periods, and you can start from whichever chapter you want, making it a non-linear game.

Live A Live is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
