The Frogger arcade game was widely popular when first released. And it didn’t stop there. It has helped spawn many sequels and clones with the same concept. But now NBC Universal is bringing us a live-action Frogger, courtesy of streaming service Peacock.

Live-action Frogger Premiere Date

First released in 1981, the Frogger arcade game has always maintained popularity. It has spawned as many as 25 sequels as a result of its popularity. According to the Wiki, more than 20 million copies were sold by 2005. The original is the work of developer Konami, but NBC Universal will be handling the live-action Frogger.

It is so popular, in fact, that people who grew up on it will see a game show version of the classic title. Except for actual people in place of frogs, everything is relative the same. ‘Locations’ for the courses include classic places such as Frog City, Candy Frog Land, and Frog Skull Island.

According to a statement by NBC Universal, live-action Frogger contestants will “dodge treacherous traffic, leap over snapping gators and hop over hungry hippos to conquer the course.” Originally, the player’s objective was to get to the empty houses at the top of the screen. In the game show version, they’ll be doing something similar. Only this time, the prize for victory is $100,000. Many might compare the course and potential injuries to the show Wipeout, which originally aired on ABC.

The live-action Frogger show will feature hosts Damon Wayans Jr. and Good Morning Football host Kevin Brandt. It will premiere on September 9, on NBC’s Peacock streaming service. And it will be followed by a new episode each week. Check here to see if your device supports the Peacock app.
