Live-Action Pinocchio Official Trailer Details and Cast

Disney’s live-action remake of the legendary 1940 Disney animated feature Pinocchio received its first official trailer on Good Morning America. The film will be directed by legendary director Robert Zemeckis, perhaps best known for his work on the science-fiction comedy classic Back to the Future and the live-action/animated comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. Zemeckis has also collaborated with star Tom Hanks, who will play the kind-hearted but lonely woodcarver Geppetto, who builds and raises the young Pinocchio, on several films in the past, including Forrest Gump (1994), Cast Away (2000), and The Polar Express (2004).

Pinocchio is Disney’s second animated feature film from 1940, which, in turn, was based on the 1883 Italian book The Adventures of Pinocchio by author Carlo Collodi. Alongside Hanks, the film will star Cynthia Erivo, Keegan-Michael Key, Lorraine Bracco, Luke Evans, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio. Erivo will play a new depiction of the Blue Fairy, who brings Geppetto’s creation to life after he wishes for a real son.

Pinocchio will be the first full Disney live-action remake released exclusively on Disney+, due for release on September 8th this year according to the official trailer. Whether there will be a theatrical release is unconfirmed at this time. The only other live-action remake released mainly for Disney+ was Mulan in particular, during the height of the pandemic.

Alan Silvestri, a recurring collaborator of Zemeckis, will compose the score for the film, which will include several new songs, including a new rendition of the classic “When You Wish Upon a Star” performed by Erivo’s Blue Fairy.

Keegan-Michael Key will star as “Honest” John, alongside Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull, Luke Evans as The Coachman, Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana – and her marionette Sabina – Giuseppe Battiston as Señor Stromboli, and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.
