Fans of adventure travel have likely already enjoyed Long Way Round and Long Way Down. These two documentaries are centered around actor Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, Moulin Rouge!, Fargo, Birds of Prey), and Charley Boorman (actor and motorcycle racer) riding on motorcycles around continents. Long Way Round took them from the UK, across Europe and Asia, and across North America to New York City. Long Way Down took them from the UK and down Africa to Cape Town. Now, they finally return in Long Way Up.
It has been over ten years since Long Way Down premiered in 2007. McGregor and Boorman have mentioned an interest in doing a Long Way Up in the past to travel up the Americas. Anyone who has seen these series, or read the books, know the journey is difficult and they are not staying in luxury hotels. They are often camping in hard conditions, driving the bikes over rivers and crumbling roads, and enduring difficult weather. All the while they also do charity work and raise awareness for issues around the world.
Long Way Up will take them from Tierra del Fuego in the southern tip of South America, through Central America, and up to Los Angeles, California. The journey is slated for three months. To make the journey even more of a challenge, they will be doing the entire trip on electric motorcycles. Even their support crew will be in electric cars.
The journey will take them across the Andes mountains, through difficult winters, and charming little towns. Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are also taking a crash-course in Spanish to help them along. Boorman recently had a terrible motorcycle accident in 2016 that was nearly lethal. His road to recovery has been long but he started riding again as soon as he was physically able.
If you want to enjoy the third installment of this fun adventure series with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, you can catch the first two episodes currently via Apple TV. The third one airs this Friday, 9/25. The series will likely be ten episodes long.
