Loop Hero fans have developed a love-hate relationship with the Rogue. As one of the higher risk, higher reward classes in the game, playing the Rogue can often feel like a bit of a gamble. With the right strategy, however, the Rogue’s risky nature can be leveraged to play as one of the strongest classes in the game. The key is to push fights in your favor by forcing them to end quickly.
How to Unlock the Rogue
Unlocking the Rogue is relatively straightforward. You’ll need to build a Refuge at base camp. First, players must unlock the Field Kitchen upgrade. A relatively cheap upgrade available directly after the tutorial, you can then move on to unlocking the Refuge. With the Refuge, comes the Rogue class.
To unlock the Field Kitchen, you’ll need:
- 1 Food Supply
- 2 Preserved Rock
- 3 Stable Wood
Then, head to your basecamp, and place the Field Kitchen. These supplies will be relatively simple to get, and you should get them on your very first loop. Just place a few Meadows and Rocks in order to gather the materials.
To unlock the Refuge, you’ll need:
- 4 Stable Metal
- 7 Food Supplies
- 12 Stable Wood
- 2 Preserved Rock
Again, gathering these materials will be simple. In order to get Stable Metal, you’ll need to gather 13 Scrap Metal. The easiest way to get this is to farm loops with a full inventory as well as place the Treasury card and surround it with Blooming Meadows. Using both of these methods, you’ll gather enough Stable Metal in no-time. It should take a total of about five or so loops to gather the resources.
Rogue Basics
The Rogue has a few key unique mechanics. The first, and most crucial to bear in mind, is that the Rogue does not gather equipment from enemies. Instead, they gather trophies that are traded in for new items once they reach the campfire. You need to be absolutely sure of your ability to make it through a loop before starting a new one. You can’t get saved halfway like the Warrior or Necromancer.
Rogues also get a bonus when stacking stats. This means that if you have equipment that gives boosts to critical hit chance, for instance, you will also get a passive boost to critical hit chance. This is one of the reasons why the Rogue is such a high-risk play.
Regarding Card Choice and Stat Priority
When it comes to Rogues, you’re not going to bother stacking health or regeneration. You simply won’t be able to do it. So, treat encounters like a DPS race—which most times you will win. Instead of focusing on Mountains/Rocks, try to place Deserts/Sand Dunes in order to lower your enemy’s HP. As far as stat priority, you’ll want to prioritize a nice blend of critical hit chance, damage, and attack speed to ensure that you end fights as quickly as possible.
