For fans of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, visiting the Shire in New Zealand is a top destination. Walking through the set is a monumental opportunity, but as tempting as those Hobbit homes may be, they are only doors. The actual Bag End does not exist on the inside. But there is another opportunity for fans to live like a Hobbit. And it’s happening all the way across the ocean in Woodfin, North Carolina.
A married couple and lifelong Lord of the Rings fans wanted to give visitors a unique opportunity. They are creating an 800 square foot Airbnb that is a replica of a Hobbit hole from Middle-Earth. Husband Mike Parrish has stated:
The Airbnb will have one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen, and be 90% underground in true Hobbit fashion. No Hobbit home would be complete without the round front door, of course. Local woodworker John Fenwick was responsible for the doors. Through the front door is a spectacular view over the mountains. Black Mountain Builders associate Matt Robinson stated:
This Lord of the Rings destination will be available to stay in very soon. The build is expected to be completed in two months. At this point, the Parrish couple has not decided what the nightly rate will be. The mayor of Woodfin and town manager have also thrown their support into the project. Many United States-based fans have to travel far to New Zealand to get a real feel for being a Hobbit. It’s an excellent opportunity to bring some of that Middle-Earth magic to the states.
