Phantom Palace is one of the end game Dungeons that you will unlock in one of the Rohendel Region Questlines after completing “A New Voyage” and “Wall of Procyon” Quests from Ealyn the Queen of North Vern in Vern Castle. Inside the Phantom Palace, there lies a huge chessboard puzzle that you need to solve to be able to fight the boss and complete the Dungeon. Unfortunately, the puzzle seems to have filtered quite a several players. Here’s a quick guide on how you can get through the Phantom Palace Chess Puzzle in Lost Ark.

How To Solve Phantom Palace Chess Puzzle in Lost Ark

The in-game Quest guide tells you that you need to place the chess pieces “symmetrically.” To do this, look at the board, see how the pieces are arranged, and look for any missing White or Black pieces. Then just pick up the missing ones from the side and put them on the chessboard.

However, the first thing you need to know to solve this puzzle quickly is that the Phantom Palace chessboard puzzle is randomized for each run. No one but you and your team’s wits can save you. And the second tip is to hover your mouse over all the chess pieces. If the piece is highlighted by the color yellow, then that means you need to move it onto the board. Lastly, the most important to note is that the Quest guide is apparently kind of misleading. We actually are not trying to make the board symmetrical but to mirror the chess pieces’ locations or make half of the board as if it’s rotated 180 degrees.

For example, let’s take this Lost Ark Phantom Palace chess puzzle video from YouTuber GRiNGODOX.

This is how you solve their randomized Phantom Palace chess puzzle:

First Chess Puzzle

  • Pick up the White Horse.
  • Mirror it with the position of the Black Horse.
  • That means, place it just beside (left of) the White Pawn in the middle of the board.

Second Chess Puzzle

  • Pick up the Black Queen.
  • Place it behind the Black Horse, mirroring where the White Horse and Queen are placed.

Some people on Reddit reported that they encountered a bug in the Phantom Palace chess puzzle; however, judging from the randomized board pieces and how you can easily mistake the Quest guide, it could be that they’re just doing it wrong. I hope this guide helps.

Lost Ark is now available on PC via Steam.
