Love Live The Musical: Coming to a Dedicated Anime Fanbase

The Love Live franchise started as a self-described “ultimate user-participation project” that let its fans vote on their future idols and idol groups. This included a choice of song lyrics, character details, sub-group members, and center positions. It was a collaboration between the anime Studio Sunrise and ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki G Magazine.

The first Love Live project anime series premiered in January 2013. Once this model proved to be successful, it continued for future  Love Live idol groups and the second season. There is also a film for the franchise titled Love Live! The School Idol Movie opened in June 2015. Since these two releases, the franchise has been successful in Japan and overseas. Currently, Love Like Superstar!! is the fourth and most recent project. It currently focuses on the group Leilla! and its five members. The story for this season focuses on a new school with no reputation, leaving the girls to carve their own paths in the idol world.

Currently, Love Live! is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
