According to Deadline, the infamous Gomez Addams will be played by Luis Guzmán for Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family series aptly named Wednesday, which will focus on everybody’s favorite Addam; Wednesday Addams, who is being played by Jenna Ortega.

Everybody Loves Wednesday

The Netflix series is being written by Al Gough and Miles Millar. They were the showrunners of the popular WB show, Smallville. Wednesday is intended to be a coming-of-age story and you can’t get more coming-of-age than an alien baby crash landing on a planet he’s never been to. Sounds to me like the script should be just fine.

And directing Wednesday will be Tim Burton, everybody’s favorite embodiment of teenage angst. His last directing gig had him helm the remake of Dumbo. Another coming-of-age centric story about a baby elephant with the biggest ears you will ever see. It sounds like the writers and director are in a great position to focus on Wednesday Addams’s ascend into womanhood.

Moustache Time

And as far as longtime character actor Luis Guzmán playing Wednesday’s father, Gomez Addams, it doesn’t sound like it will be a permanent role. The term guest star typically means he’ll show up from time to time. And you might be able to figure out which episode if you pay attention to the credits they sometimes run during the intro. Though if they were smart, they would save the credits for the end of the episode as to not spoil and names being on the current episode.

Now, Luis Guzmán has some gigantic shoes to fill, considering that the best embodiment of Gomez Addams was played by Raul Julia in The Addams Family, and in the follow-up, The Addams Family Values back in the 90s. And much like my Batman will always Kevin Conroy, my Gomez Addams will always be Raul Julia. Julia also played M. Bison in the much-maligned Street Fighter, unfortunately, Julia passed away in 1994. I’ll always remember him and his brother Fester, played by Christopher Lloyd, in the aforementioned Addams Family movies. Great chemistry the two had.
