M. Night Shyamalan’s next thriller now has a release date. Universal announced that it will be releasing on July 23, 2021.

Details on the plot and title of the film are yet to be revealed. However, it has been reported that the forthcoming film is part of a two-picture deal between the writer-director and the studio, signed in 2019. Written, directed, and produced by Shyamalan, the film, which falls in the thriller category which is a niche the writer is well-known for, is sure to connect with the audiences just as much as his previous projects.

First announced in May when the writer-director teased that he had spent 12 weeks storyboarding the feature over Skype with his team during the lockdown, the script has been written by Shyamalan who will also have a hand in production. On Monday, Deadline reported that Nikki Amuka-Bird and Ken Leung have also come aboard on the cast which also includes Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Aaron Pierre, Alex Wolff, and Vicky Krieps.

Originally set to debut on February 26, 2021, the film has been subject to a five-month delay after Universal removed it from the calendar due to the COVID-19 induced production and release dates shuffle. Earlier this week, Universal shifted its Tom Hanks-starring Amblin sci-fi movie Bios from October 2020 to April 16, 2021. Now, as the rest of Hollywood and the world at large is trying to get back to life,  Universal is targeting the Fourth of July weekend for bowing fresh titles. No other details are known about the Shyamalan thriller, but Universal’s releases of the filmmaker’s three previous films, Glass, Split, and The Visit have seen an impressive box office collection – the expectations for this upcoming project is therefore predictably high!
