Mable and The Wood is set to be released August 23, 2019, on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One from Graffiti Games. This news doesn’t just come with a reveal date but a new trailer as well. The trailer will be available at the end of this article. A little insight into the game. Mable and The Wood is a Metroidvania puzzle, 80s RPG. Players can hunt down massive beats and then become them. After the destruction of these massive beasts, you inherit their abilities to use in the game. But, the game progresses on how you use these newfound abilities. Players with less violent intent can find secret pathways to have Mable go about completing the game without killing anything including the bosses. The discovery of these new pathways will unlock the secret parts of the story.

Like with similar Metroidvania style games, Mable and The Wood makes traversing the landscape a little odd. The player won’t be able to run, jump, and kill on their own. The player will need to use non-human forms to attack creatures and propel through puzzling challenges. Mabel carries a sword which the player will have scrape alongside themselves in order to move, fight, and figure out puzzles. This magic sword cannot be lifted and needs to be used as a sort of magnet with it in place and Mabel moving to make use of its trajectory. The movement and placement of the sword are not enough to play this game. Mable will need to move like a specific beast and utilize their abilities to progress forward. The trailer showcases beasts such as a giant spider, a giant rock formation, and a giant mole with huge claws. Then with the choice of the beast through a pausing scroll wheel, Mabel transforms into that beast.

The gameplay from the trailer looks very similar to other Metroidvania style games with colorful pixels and an amazing soundtrack. This game is unlocked that of typical side scrollers as movement is limited. Tell us what you think about Mabel and The Wood and if you’ll be getting a copy August 23, 2019!
