Madden 21 fans are once again not happy with the NFL sim game Electronic Arts produced.
In what is becoming a yearly occurrence, an online backlash started formulating on Sunday afternoon. That backlash even briefly got the keyword #NFLdropEA trending on Twitter.
Despite being slated for both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, when the game was first announced, longtime players noted it didn’t appear anything was different in Madden 21.
Each new release has long been called nothing more than a $60 roster update. That’s expected by most of the Madden 21 community.
What got people fire up on Sunday was the inexplicable bugs and errors that still plague the title. Those who were posting in the hashtag had plenty of weird stuff to show off, wondering how in the world a series that’s been around this long, has this many problems.

There were also some posters who are tired of the game looking the same year in and year out.

One user pointed out that Madden 21 is getting review bombed on MetaCritic. As of Sunday night, the NFL sim game is getting just a 0.6 cumulative user score.

The most interesting thing about the user scores being as bad as they are is the critic reviews aren’t that bad. To be clear, they aren’t that good either.
Madden NFL 21 is what it has been for years now. It’s a decent but not great football game. It’s not terrible, but it has problems that shouldn’t still be around.
Electronic Arts has seen an unusual amount of complaints this year. Part of that is how little was changed from Madden 20 to this year’s iteration.
Some of it was the marketing, which seemed to focus on the developers offering up features that sounded more like bug fixes or DLC. #NFLdropEA started because the company recently got a brand new deal to continue on with the series.
That almost guarantees Madden 21 won’t be the last game fans are outraged about.
