Madden NFL has today revealed the cover art for the upcoming Madden NFL 23, which is set to focus on the late John Madden and his contributions to the sports franchise. Across three different covers displaying the different versions, EA is ensuring they pay homage to the man who “changed the gaming industry forever”. They had plenty more announcements to share as well, seeing as this is Madden Day and all.

Celebrating Madden’s Legacy in Numerous Ways

Outside of the cover art shown off today (which you can find on EA.com), the team also plans to showcase more ways he’ll be honored in the upcoming sports game. Today though, they were willing to share that he’ll be in the game through remastered audio clips that call back to his days as a broadcaster. There will even be an “interactive experience” featuring two Coach Maddens leading different teams in a game at the 1970s Oakland Coliseum.

Going beyond the game though, Electronic Arts has also announced a major $5 million donation to the John Madden Legacy Commitment to Education. $2.5 million of that will go towards four non-profit organizations centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Art/Math education. Those four organizations are College Track, Mission Bit, StreetCode Academy, and Girls Who Code. The other $2.5 million will go to creating an EA Madden Scholarship dedicated to supporting students at historically Black colleges and universities. To top all of this off, EA is even dedicating a football field at the EA headquarters in Redwood City to the man, further honoring his legacy.

All around, EA is making sure it honors John Madden’s legacy right in preparation for the upcoming Madden NFL 23. The man is a legend, and deserves his praise both as a coach and as a person all around. We’d love to hear your thoughts though on John, the game series, and today’s donations as a whole!
