If you’ve been searching for an anime with mystical boy androids, mutant rabbit children, and a mysterious abyss more deep, dark, and spooky than any Demon’s Souls dungeon, look no further than Made in Abyss. It tells a captivating tale about Riko, a young girl who made the decision of a lifetime to journey down into the depths of the Abyss to find her missing mother, a legendary Abyss Diver. However, don’t be fooled by its child-like presentation or mild fantasy visuals. Made in Abyss is not an anime for the faint of heart. The story has a fair share of brutally suspenseful moments, violently mature imagery, and depressingly dark themes.

It is for good reason that Made in Abyss was one of the best-received anime released back in 2017. Notable music composer Kevin Penkin did a phenomenal job making the audible atmosphere of Made in Abyss come to life with stunning scores to harmonize with the anime’s overall soft but somber theme. There’s no doubt he will do a fantastic job for the upcoming second season, Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City as well.

Unfortunately, the announcement of Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City didn’t provide much information beyond some poster art. From a glance, it does appear that the story will take place following the events of Made in Abyss‘s movie from last spring, Dawn of the Deep Soul. The release date, along with the details of the sequel’s plot, is in the dark at the moment. Still, this is big news for Made in Abyss fans. Not to mention, an upcoming video game adaption under the development of Spike Chunsoft was also announced this week.
