Maliyo Games is a big name for African-inspired titles. But the developers don’t want to stop there. With the help of Google, they are expanding their GameUp Bootcamp. They are looking to enrich certain areas with developer opportunities.

Maliyo Games has released multiple African-inspired titles. But they want to do more than produce games. And with the help of Google, it’s looking like a possibility. With the GameUp Bootcamp, training will be available in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria.
Android game development skills will be a focus in Lagos, Nigeria. And Hugo Obi, founder of Maliyo Games studio, stated the program will be the first of its kind. So it should be relatively popular among those wanting to learn the trade. By 2025, Africa is projected to have more than 475 million mobile users. So why not add to the increasing library of games available?
While the opportunity is enticing, it’s not meant for everyone. The focus of the Maliyo Games program will be teaching those with basic programming knowledge or a background in Computer Science. Students will learn how to refine, package, and develop casual Android games using a modern self-paced and project-based learning system during the program. But they won’t be alone. They will periodically have mentors from Maliyo Games assess their work and evaluate performance.
Hugo Obi has stated previously there is a lack of available talent in Africa. And this team-up with Google should help find exponentially more talented individuals. The initial program will be virtual, to scout out talent. And students will guide themselves, using tutorials similar to Udemy or Coursera. On occasion, students can look to mentors for help.
