Tripwire Interactive, the creators of the so-called “first shark RPG” (or in their terms, shARkPG), have announced the release of their game Maneater to Nintendo Switch and Steam today. For the longest time, I thought I was the only one who has had dreams of becoming a ferocious, one-ton killing machine from the Paleocene but based on the game’s sales, that’s obviously just not true.

Like an amped-up version of the classic Feeding Frenzy, players are tasked with growing their shark by moving up the food chain, eating everything they can – animals and humans alike. Eventually, this growth cumulates in your shark, becoming an almost alien-like super-predator that can take down essentially everything in its way (and shoot freaking laser beams from its head). The story is humorously narrated by Chris Parnell (of SNL and Archer fame), who plays Trip Westhaven.

You can check out a trailer for Maneater here and take a chance to look at our review of the title from its original release back in May of last year.

There has also been an upcoming DLC announced for the game, which is set to release “sometime this summer.” The DLC covers a conspiracy-esque mockumentary of why the player’s shark mutated in the way that it did and the government cover-up that followed Trip Westhaven’s coverage of said shark in the base game. Take a look at the trailer for the DLC below, which looks a bit like something off of Ancient Aliens.

Maneater has also been added to Xbox Game Pass today, meaning that Xbox users will have the chance to try it out for free and get in on the cartilaginous carnage. It will be available via Game Pass for the next six months.

Steam users can take advantage of a 15% off launch discount on the release of Maneater as well. This brings the price down to $33.99 (which will last until June 1).

Switch players will be able to take their shark-based action on the go with the Nintendo release of Maneater supporting docked, tabletop, and handheld gameplay for the system.
