If you are a fan of The Office then this might be a sad read for you. TMZ is reporting that Marcus York passed a week ago at the Miami Valley Hospital in Ohio. York had been suffering from an illness, but no cause of death has been announced as of just yet.
Early Life
Marcus York was born in Arcanum, Ohio. He didn’t need the use of his wheelchair until 1988 when he was involved in a life-altering automobile accident that paralyzed him. That was not enough to slow York down. He then decided to attend Anderson University in Indiana. There he triple-majored in Sociology, Psychology, and Social Work. It was during these formidable years that a friend urged York to look into acting opportunities. He was always intrigued by television and film. That intrigue led to commercials. Then on to television and film.
Professional Career
His first major role was in a 1997 film by the name of Going All The Way which starred Ben Affleck. From there he would go on to be an uncredited extra in the eerie “skin circus” in the 2001 film A.I. Artificial Intelligence; which Stanely Kubrick began production on back in the 70s and then handed that whole production over to Steven Spielberg in 1995 after Kubrick thought there would never be a child actor who would be able to play the lead role.
Billy Merchant
York’s most notable role will always be when he played Billy Merchant on The Office. Billy is the property manager for Scranton Business Park. Everyone’s favorite idiot, Michael Scott, wanted to bring Billy in to talk to the office about how hard it is to live in a wheelchair. Of course, it backfires tremendously on Michael.
