Sony Studios originally had Comedian Amy Schumer as the title role of Barbie before dropping the role. Warner Bro. took over the movie, casting Margot Robbie as the lead in 2019, with Ryan Gosling as Ken. Recently, Barbie added America Ferrera and Simu Liu to join Gosling and Robbie. Adding Kate McKinnon to the cast of Barbie confirms it will be a comedy movie. Margot Robbie’s Barbie is in pre-production, set to start filming soon. Academy Award Nominee Greta Gerwig is penned to direct and co-write the screenplay with her husband, Noah Baumbach.

McKinnon has been a member of Saturday Night Live since 2013 and has remained a crucial member. Robbie has been known as the infamous Harley Quinn, portraying in live-action films since Suicide Squad in 2016, now she’ll be portraying another iconic role as Barbie. Ryan Gosling is made famous for his roles in movies like The Notebook, Blue Valentine, and La La Land. Gosling received an Oscar nominee for the lead role in La La Land in 2016. Greta Gerwig has directed the movies Lady Bird and Little Women, both academy award nominee films.
