Maria Bakalova continues to ride her train of success since Borat 2 as she has been cast in the action movie Dirty Angels, The Hollywood Reporter has reported. She joins Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black), Eva Green (Penny Dreadful), Jojo T. Gibbs (Fresh), and Rona-Lee Shim’on (A Quiet Heart). It will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).
The story is based on events that took place last year when the United States pulled out of Afghanistan. It will follow women soldiers disguised as medical personnel who go to rescue teenagers caught between ISIS and the Taliban. Maria Bakalova and her co-star in Dirty Angels have not had their roles disclosed.

The Bulgarian star has been shooting straight to the moon in Hollywood since she starred in Borat 2, which earned her an Oscar nomination. She starred in A24’s horror comedy whodunit Bodies Bodies Bodies back in the summer. She has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Cosmo the Spacedog. We will see her debut as the character in the Holiday Special on Disney+ on November 25. Other upcoming projects include Freedom or Death, The Honeymoon, Unfrosted, Fairyland, Electra, Triumph, and Branded.
Moshe Diamunt, Rob Van Norden, and Yariv Lerner will serve as producers. Avi Lerner, Boaz Davidson, Trevor Short, Jeffrey Greenstein, and Jonathan Yunger will executive produce.
The newly announced stars with Maria Bakalova in Dirty Angels have caught themselves in prominent projects recently. Gibbs joined Sebastian Stan in the horror film Fresh and Showtime’s Twenties. Shim’on was in the Middle Eastern drama Fauda and the thriller series Messiah.
No release date has been attached yet for the film. Maria Bakalova and her co-stars will begin filming Dirty Angels this December. Production will kick off in Morocco and Greece.
