The first Nintendo Direct of the year took place today and among a flood of exciting announcements was a new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC called Booster Course Pass. The paid expansion will include courses from several past Mario Kart games such as Super Mario Kart (SNES), Mario Kart 64 (N64), Mario Kart: Super Circuit (Gameboy Advance), Mario Kart: Double Dash (Game Cube), Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 7 (3DS), and Mario Kart Tour (mobile). Long-time fans of the franchise are sure to be pleased with the added courses.

Nintendo plans to release eight new courses over six waves by the end of 2023 for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass DLC. That’s 48 new courses coming to the game over the next ten months. While Nintendo didn’t show the courses coming in waves two through six, wave one looks like it will include a Paris-themed course, the Wii Coconut Mall, N64 Choco Mountain, Tour Tokyo Blur, one high up in the clouds with a tall beanstalk in the background, and several more. All of the courses will be available locally and online.
Although fans were very much hoping to receive an official announcement on Mario Kart 9 at today’s Nintendo Direct, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass DLC seems like it will tide fans over until at least the rest of 2022. Unfortunately, that most likely means the next installment to the series will not be launching until at least 2023. Several leaks have said it is definitely in development, perhaps fans could see the game announced near the end of the year.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass DLC will launch on March 18 on the Nintendo Switch for $24.99 USD. Preorders for the expansion will begin from today, February 9. In addition, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will be able to enjoy the DLC at no extra cost.
