Mark Wahlberg is in final talks to join the long-awaited Uncharted movie. Coming from Variety, the report says he will star alongside Tom Holland, who has been officially confirmed to be in the film. The feature will be produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

So, with this news, it begs the question of who Mark Wahlberg will play. According to the Variety report, Wahlberg will be playing Victor “Sully” Sullivan. It’s a natural fit when you think of Wahlberg and the variety of roles he has played. Think of his awesome, cocky role in The Departed. Combine that with a father figure of sorts and you’ve got Sully.

Mark Wahlberg Joins An Impressive Crew

From what we know so far of the Uncharted movie, Mark Wahlberg is not a lone ranger in terms of stardom. As mentioned above, Tom Holland will be starring alongside him as Nathan Drake. However, these two may not be the most interesting figures on the production. It’s who’s behind the camera that brings in a lot of promise to the production.

Firstly, the director is Travis Knight. A major figure at stop motion studio Laika, Knight has directed the studio’s criminally underrated film Kubo and the Two Strings. He was also responsible for last year’s critically acclaimed Transformers movie Bumblebee. Knight took over from Dan Trachtenberg of 10 Cloverfield Lane fame this past August.

Secondly, the most recent draft of the script has been written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Judkins’ most notable credits are writing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and writing the screenplay for the upcoming adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Division. Marcum’s biggest credit, in terms of success, is Iron Man. And, the goes the same for Holloway.

Finally, while the company is not particularly a figure, Sony’s hand in the productions means that there will be a level of quality to it. The Uncharted film is, realistically, an advertisement for the games themselves. So, with Mark Wahlberg potentially joining the film and everyone mentioned above involved, there is a chance this movie won’t suck!
