Martin Lawrence says Bad Boys 4 is still a go despite the Will Smith Oscar slap controversy. There have been three films in the buddy cop action comedy film franchise. Smith would reprise his role as Mike Lowrey and Lawrence as Marcus Burnett in Bad Boys 4. It all started with the first film in 1995. In January 2020, a fourth film was announced with Chris Bremner as the writer. Before the slap, Will Smith was given 40 pages of the script. The actor has already lost projects because of the events at the award show, like the Netflix film Fast and Loose. Sony Pictures has not confirmed nor denied that the project is still going to happen. The films have made $840 million worldwide. The second buddy cop action comedy film grossed $426 million at the box office.

There Is No Guarantee Bad Boys 4 with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence Will Be Happening Any Time Soon

The first Bad Boys film dealt with police corruption and drug dealing. The second introduced Gabrielle Union as Sydney ‘Syd’ Burnett, the sister of Lawrence’s character. Lowrey (Smith) is still a cop, but Burnett (Lawrence) is retired in the third film. The third part of the buddy cop action comedy film was a box office hit just before the world shut down from the covid-19 pandemic. If Bad Boys 4 with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is greenlit by Sony, that could be part of Smith picking up the pieces of her career. The is could be a litmus test for how bankable Will Smith still is with the buddy cop action comedy films. For now, Bad Boys 4 is still happening, according to just Lawrence.

If fans of the film franchise are hoping for Bad Boys 4, they’ll have to wait for word from Sony, possibly through Smith or Lawrence.
