In Hollywood, it is harder to find a bigger seal of approval than when legendary filmmakers talk about what films, actors, and directors they like. Among the many living masters of making films is Martin Scorsese, who turned out loved Pearl and what Ti West has been doing with horror (via Slash Film).

Released this past weekend, like any horror fan, Martin Scorsese saw Pearl, the prequel to X, a horny slasher that was released this year. It was impressive enough to anyone following the director to see how he made X that turned out to be a standout horror film for 2022 but surprised everyone with a prequel that was already made and ready to go doubled-down on the surprise of the X-verse that will round out with a third film, MaXXXine. For the Wolf of Wall Street director found that he felt “enthralled,” “disturbed,” and “unsettled.” He found it hard to go to sleep after watching.

Martin Scorsese loved Pearl and what Ti West did with his X-universe

Martin Scorsese is not the only one gushing over Pearl and Ti West. The prequel that gives off an energy of Psycho meets The Wizard of Oz is holding 87% for critics and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Giving fans a glimpse into the character, played by Mia Goth in both the prequel and its predecessor, has also slashed the box office. In the fashion of cheap horror films, the film has chopped up a $3 million opening weekend.

X saw a group of young people wanting to make the greatest porn film ever made. The place they rented on an old couple’s farm turns deadly. The prequel gave audiences a look at the murderer’s youthful life on the farm in 1918. MaXXXine will follow the sole survivor after the events of the first film, rounding out the trilogy and Goth’s performance as both characters.
