With the juggernaut that is Marvel movies going from strength to strength following the release of Avengers: Endgame, the TV side of the company is falling by the wayside. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Punisher and The Defenders have all been canceled by Netflix, much to the chagrin of fans. With those gone, it seemed the beginning of the end for Marvel characters on our television set.
The cancelation of those shows seemed a major setback, however, there is some promise for the future. Marvel has announced they will be bringing live-action versions of Ghost Rider and Helstrom to Hulu. Both of which are expected to release in 2020.
Ghost Rider will once again be played by Gabriel Luna who portrayed the flame-headed character in season 4 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner for Ghost Rider with Paul Zbyszewski producing. Zbyszewski will also produce and serve as the showrunner for Helstrom. Other than that, there hasn’t been any further casting info for either show,
Helstrom follows the story of Ana and Daimon Helstrom, children of a serial killer, as they track down the worst that humanity has to offer. It’s a relatively unknown Marvel property, but one that, if done right, will bring a whole host of new fans over to the franchise.
Hulu will add these two adult orientated shows to its lineup of current Marvel fares on offer. Runaways has recently been renewed for a third season and they have a host of animated Marvel shows on offer, including a Howard the Duck series.
With these new shows along with the more age-appropriate Loki and Winter Soldier series that will be coming to the Disney+ streaming service, it seems there is now a future for Marvel shows on the TV. Here’s hoping they manage to bring back Daredevil somehow at some point down the line.
