Dimensional Ink Studios, the developer of DC Universe Online, is working on a “Marvel IP based MMO game”, according to an investor report. The new AAA MMO game utilizing the Marvel Universe will be spearheaded by the Dimensional Ink Studio’s CEO Jack Emmert. Emmert’s impressive resume includes titles like DC Universe Online, Marvel Universe Online (which was scrapped before its release but succeeded by Marvel Heroes), and City of Heroes/Villains.

This information comes from an investor presentation by the parent company, EG7, for the 3rd financial quarter. The project is listed under the company’s “long-term” goals, which would put a release date somewhere in 2023, at the very earliest. But maybe some recent releases (like Marvel’s Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy game) can help fans during their wait. There’s also Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which was delayed recently until late 2022.

EG7 (DCUO/Everquest devs’ parent company) released their Q3 ‘21 financials, and confirmed the unannounced AAA Marvel MMO that appeared in the GeForce Now leak and which had previously been cancelled in 2018 as the studio faced financial hardships has officially been REVIVED!! https://t.co/ho2gZcipa5 pic.twitter.com/jjVlMLHn1u

It’s worth noting that Daybreak Game Company had started work on an untitled Marvel MMO a few years back, but canceled the project in 2018, resulting in layoffs late in the year. Another attempt at a Marvel MMO game had occurred even earlier, when Cryptic Studios began development on Marvel Universe Online in 2006 before Microsoft canceled it two years later. The project was later revived as Champions Online, while Gazillion Entertainment’s Marvel Heroes launched successfully in 2013, but shut down operations in late 2017.
