Marvel is celebrating Pride this year with the release of Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1. This giant-sized one-shot will feature a fantastic team of LGBTQ+ characters and creators. It celebrates a wide range of identities and experiences within the LGBTQ+ community. Marvel highlights its commitment to the community by spotlighting existing LGBTQ+ characters and introducing new ones to the Marvel Universe.
Marvel’s Voices: Pride Sounds Familiar…
This is the second outing from Marvel’s Voices: Pride series. Last year, Marvel released a series of 12 new stories centered on LGBTQ+ characters. Bearing the same name, it was the first-ever series centered on queer characters and stories. It culminated with the introduction of a brand-new mutant: Somnus. Steve Orlando and Luciano Vecchio ushered Somnus into the Marvel Universe. The character is now a staple in the Marauders X-Men series.
This year, Charlie Jane Anders will continue the tradition. This year’s one-shot will see the debut of another new her to the Marvel Universe. Plus, Marvel promises this is just the beginning for this all-new character.
What Stories Will This One-Shot Tell?
Along with introducing a new character, the Marvel Pride one-shot will offer a variety of stories for readers. From action-packed adventures to poignant looks at the diverse lives of superheroes, the giant-sized one-shot has something for everyone. For instance, Christopher Cantwell is taking on Moondragon and his complex legacy. The hero will star in a heart-bending story spanning space and time. Andrew Wheeler makes his Marvel debut with a story focused on Hercules.
This series will also reunite some fan favorites. Alyssa Wong and artist Stephen Byrne are bringing the Young Avengers back together. Meanwhile, Grace Freud will tell a tale of responsibility in a story starring D-Man. Artist Scott B. Henderson joins her in his Marvel debut.
Elsewhere, podcaster and television writer Ira Madison III is exploring the legacy of Pride in his Marvel debut. At the same time, Danny Lore is revisiting two legacy characters that are still stuck in the closet in a story of redemption.
Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 hits shelves this June, just in time for Pride. However, fans can catch up with last year’s anthology in Marvel’s Voices: Pride TPB. This collection combines last year’s Pride special with some special stories across the Marvel Universe. It will be available in May.
