Over the last few days, there’s been a lot of disappointment about the way character design work has been done on Marvel’s Avengers, as fans believe those characters are very far from being a good depiction of the comics nor of the most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe.

At a certain point throughout the week, people on the internet got convinced that Crystal Dynamics would be changing the designs before the release next year, but creative director Shaun Escayg has debunked that and stated that, outside of a work of polish, what you see is what you’re going to get.

“We are always listening to and welcome feedback from our community. There are currently no plans to change our character designs,” Escayg told IGN in a post-Square Enix E3 2019 showcase interview. Also, by the way, he added that polish could make the characters look better than they do now.

“The trailer is showing pre-alpha gameplay footage, which means the level of detail and overall polish of the character models will absolutely continue to improve as we get closer to launch,” he said, which is possibly hinting at a very early stage in the process (this is the reason why the game has not been shown publicly).

It’s good to remember that the cast for these characters involves talents like Nolan North as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Troy Baker as Bruce Banner/Hulk, so the cast is not the real problem at all. The core issue is the way the characters look, like cheap imitations of the originals, and this is what fans hope the team will be working on to improve.

Marvel’s Avengers is releasing May 20, 2020.
