Today’s issue of Marvel’s Black Widow will apparently be its last…for now. Before Black Widow #15 hit shelves today, writer Kelly Thompson let fans know that this issue would be the series’ last. Now, the editorial ending for the issue reveals that this “legendary run is ending.” However, there is still hope! Thompson reveals that there may be more of this Black Widow team in the future.
Why Is Marvel’s Black Widow Being Cancelled?
In a post to her Substack, Kelly Thompson gives little insight into why the comic was canceled. She begins the post by apologizing for not letting fans know sooner. As she says, there is a lot of “behind-the-scenes” stuff that goes on with comic books. As such, there is always stuff you cannot talk about publicly. In fact, she still cannot say too much.
However, she does say that her Natasha Romanoff series is not gone for good. There are “plans for a bit more story from this creative team.” Although no official continuation is in the works, Thompson is optimistic. She feels that all of this will work out, and whatever form the series takes in the future will be worth the wait. In Black Widow #15, the editorial ending from Sarah Brunstead confirms the series’ end. However, Brunstead does not explain why the series has been cut short.
How Does It All End?
This Black Widow series kicked off back in September as a relaunch for the Marvel character. Over 15 issues, Natasha Romanoff has grappled with a changing world. Specifically, she has dealt with secrets coming to light that change all she has ever known. This latest run has seen Natasha Romanoff take on the likes of The Living Blade.
The official synopsis for the final issue promises a “bloody conclusion” to this run. It ponders whether Romanoff has the skills to stop The Living Blade. Or are her skills in guns, explosives, and hand-to-hand combat not enough?
