Marvel’s monkey with a penchant for murder is coming to Hulu. The trailer for Hit-Monkey dropped today with the series debut coming on November 17, 2021. The series stars the talents of Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Jason Sudekis (Meet the Millers), and George Takei (Star Trek).

Who is Hit-Monkey?

Hit-Monkey was created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajic back in 2010. His first appearance was in a digital one-shot for Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited. That same month, the mercenary monkey was featured in a three-issue crossover with Deadpool and Spider-Man.

Hit-Monkey’s origin involves an unnamed assassin who is marked for death after a failed political coup. On the run from his pursuers, he flees into the mountains of Japan before passing out. A group of Japanese macaques rescue him, nurse him back to health, and accept him into their clan. However, one of the monkeys (Hit-Monkey) doesn’t warm up to the new arrival. He watches the stranger train and learns advanced combat skills all his own. Following a fallout with his clan regarding the acceptance of this stranger, Hit-Monkey is banished. While in exile, he sees a group of assassins that had been tracking the new arrival. He goes to warn his former clan but finds them and the assassin dead. Now bound to the ghost of this assassin, the lone simian goes on a quest for revenge.

Hit-Monkey seems like an odd choice for Marvel and Hulu. But, Marvel is the same studio that made a talking space raccoon and his sentient tree household names. At this point, they’ve earned the ability to pull some more wild cards out and play them. In an unusual move for Marvel since the release of Disney+, the series will be exclusive to Hulu. It could be that the studio is trying to keep the more adult titles like the other Hulu-exclusive M.O.D.O.K. off of Disney+ for a more family-friendly appearance.

Marvel’s Hit-Monkey series hits Hulu on November 17.
