Bad news for fans of the kung fu and mysticism side of Marvel comics. Danny Rand, the titular character of Marvel’s Iron Fist series, has hung up his cowl. Yesterday evening, it was announced that a February 2022 issue of Iron Fist would see Danny Rand as Iron Fist No More. At first, some took this to mean that the Iron Fist character was disappearing forever, seeing as the TV show did not do well. However, in a tweet earlier today, Marvel assured us a new Iron Fist was on the way as Danny’s replacement.

Who is the Iron Fist?

For people that aren’t fans of the comics, Iron Fist may be an enigma of a character. The MCU TV show starring Finn Jones didn’t make it very far. Additionally, many fans of the character said the show failed to properly portray the character’s powers. It became more about the kung fu fights and less about how to use his chi and dragon energy to perform mystic feats.

To give the crash course on the Iron Fist series, it was created in the 1970s. Danny Rand, like so many heroes, has a tragic accident that leaves him an orphan. He finds himself in K’un-Lun, a city that only opens every decade. Wanting revenge against the person that caused his suffering, Danny trains in martial arts and chi manipulation there. Eventually, he takes the test to become the Iron Fist. By facing off against the immortal dragon Shou-Lao, Danny can defeat it and plunge his hands into the heart of the beast. He’s infused with its power, which allows him to use a super-hardened punch that can beat almost anything. He can also use chi to heal himself, use some psychic ability, and heighten his senses.

Who Will Be The Next Successor?

With the news of a new Iron Fist just announced, rumors and theories are swirling. Since the inception of the character, there has never been another besides Danny Rand. Some believe that it may be the character Swordmaster who takes his place. The original teaser, shown above, has what looks like one of the demons Swordmaster fights in the windowsill. If the theorists’ keen eyes are true, we may already have our answer.
