Marvel’s New Mutants receives a second trailer which confirms its April 3rd release date.

Just as we were beginning to wonder if New Mutants would ever release, a new trailer dropped today.

The film, starring Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams and Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton is Marvel’s first entry into the horror genre. It was originally meant to be an X-Men spin-off, but now nobody is sure. New Mutants follows young mutants held for psychiatric monitoring when things take a dark turn. As Anya Taylor Joy’s Magik says in the trailer:

We saw the first trailer in 2017, and it’s reportedly been a long road to get the film out. New Mutants was going to drop in 2019 but was delayed and it wasn’t until December last year that we heard a new trailer was going to be released.

The new trailer focuses on Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt), the latest addition to the ominous psychiatric hospital. After briefly introducing the other young mutants, we see them using their powers in many action-packed scenes. The trailer is in the style of a horror, especially with the creepy hospital setting. The film looks like it’s going to focus on the Demon Bear Saga. At the end of the trailer, we see, well, a demon bear.

It is still unclear whether the film will be included in the MCU or will be completely standalone. The Fox/Disney merger caused the film to be delayed further after Disney was unimpressed with what it saw. The film was reportedly recut to separate it from the X-Men Universe. What we do know is that the film will be rated PG-13, so it will be interesting to see how well Marvel can pull off a PG-13 rated horror.
