Marvel is teasing the reveal of Thor’s secret origins in the upcoming Avengers: 1,000,000 B.C. The comic publisher announced that the July comic will delve into the unknown origins of the God of Thunder. A teaser poster for the event hints at a connection between the superhero and the Phoenix Force. No further details are available, though Marvel promises more information soon.
Who Are The Avengers: 1,000,000 B.C.?
The Avengers from 1,000,000 B.C. was one of the earliest superhero teams on Earth. They formed over a million years ago to protect Earth when it needed it. Members of the group include Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Agamotto, Black Panther, and Starbrand. However, two members might be of more importance in this context: Odin and Lady Phoenix.
Everyone knows that Odin is the father of Thor, but few recall that Lady Phoenix is his mother. During Avengers #43, Lady Phoenix revealed to Thor that she is his mother, not Gaea. Of course, this revelation led to a strained relationship between the two entities. A few issues later, in Avengers #53, it is revealed that Thor can harness the power of the Phoenix Force.
What Could Thor’s Secret Origin Possibly Be?
What Marvel has planned for Thor is anyone’s guess. However, there are a few clues as to what it may pertain to. Lady Phoenix is the name of the Phoenix Force when in a host body. For the 1,000,000 B.C. Avengers, that host is one of Earth’s first mutants, Firehair. Her mutant genealogy may come into play, especially with Hickman’s X-Men run placing a lot of emphasis on mutant kind and genealogy. Could Thor be a mutant? Or is the offspring of a God and mutant something new?
Thor’s complicated genealogy will likely come into play in the upcoming AXE: Judgment Day event. During this event, the Eternals are waging war with mutantkind. While the Avengers are stuck in the middle of this war, Thor’s bloodline could be the key to either stopping the war or fueling the flames. Or perhaps the Phoenix Force will have something to say about all of this.
