Comicbook.com shared an exclusive preview of the X-Men’s biggest event of the year: The Hellfire Gala. Marvel typically handles major events such as this with big crossovers across multiple titles. Writer Gerry Duggan opted against that this time around, instead writing an oversized issue that will have just as big of an impact on the X-Men as any other crossover. Mutants aren’t the only ones to be affected by the events of X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1. The Marvel Universe, as a whole, will be as well. X-Men #12 saw the mutant Sync use Jean Grey’s powers to restore Ben Urich’s memories, which allowed him to write an article for the Daily Bugle that revealed the mutant resurrection protocols. The mutant team kept their death-cheating ability under wraps since Jonathan Hickman relaunched the X-Men line.

What Are The Ramifications For The X-Men?

When Cyclops gave Sync the green light to restore Ben Urich’s memories, he knew there would be a price to pay. He said as much in X-Men #12. In the preview for The Hellfire Gala, he speaks with Jean Grey and repeats the sentiment:

The Hellfire Trading Company holds a gala each year and modifies the team’s roster. Cyclops’ decision to make the resurrection information public won’t be received well by the Quiet Council. Emma Frost has an amusing response to the Daily Bugle’s article in the preview. However, it’s not just the Quiet Council (Krakoa’s body of government) that chooses the new roster. Fans also receive an opportunity to vote. It’s one of Marvel’s biggest promotional successes.

However, being on the team might be Cyclops’ last concern. Cyclops and Sync stressed to Urich that the ability to be brought back to life only worked on mutants; humankind might not take it so well. It might even be why a group pretending to be the Avengers is sneaking onto Krakoa. A page shows what looks to be Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, and somebody in the Hulkbuster armor walking on the beach. The Captain America imposter says:

There are a lot of possibilities as to their true identities. It might be a connection to the upcoming A.X.E.: Judgment Day crossover event between the Avengers, X-Men, and Eternals.

Don’t miss the oversized issue when it hits shelves on July 13th from Marvel Comics.
