.Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order marks the series’ return after a decade hiatus, featuring new faces and formats for its season pass.

This $19.99 season pass comes with three DLC packs that cannot be bought separately. This is the same tactic Call of Duty: Black 4 took along with Payday 2.

The DLC packs are the Fantastic Four, Marvel Knights and X-Men packs for each release. Additionally, new modes, story content will launch with the aforementioned packs.

If for some reason you think playing as giant rock man is lame, the listing says the DLC’s “will not be sold individually.” So, it’s all or nothing when it comes the add-on content for this title.

However, maybe take this news with a grain of salt as Activision also said Modern Warfare Remastered couldn’t be purchased separately from that year’s COD release. Then, like five seconds later a standalone version was released before you could say “Grenada.”

Unlike the previous iterations being multiplatform releases, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 will be a Switch exclusive.

Remember Where You Came From

Like Marvel vs Capcom Infinite before it, this iteration seems to be based on the MCU characters and designs. Before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, getting back the X-Men and Fantastic Four rights, they were basically erasing them from comics.

X-Men vs Street Fighter (1994) started the MvC series with the mutants being mainstays. Well, that is until Disney decided to play IP hardball. They reportedly mandated the only characters be featured in Infinite be the ones they own the rights in the MCU.

Also, like MvCI, this series started with X-Men initially as well. X-Men Legends (2004) is action-RPG that later expanded to feature other heroes with Ultimate Alliance (2006).

Now, Disney/Marvel owns most of its characters film rights back they are done excluding certain characters and putting them in various media again.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is scheduled for release on July 16th. We’ll keep you updated with more MAU3 content as the date draws closer.
