Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 arrives in stores today (June 22, 2022) with various stories about fan-favorite LGTBQIA+ Marvel characters. Amongst these characters are Loki, Hercules, Moondragon, the Young Avengers, and many more. There are multiple original characters, too. Four of these characters debut in the “LGBT-D” story written by Grace Freud and illustrated by Scott B. Henderson. Voices offers fans an opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s… well, voices. A touching foreword written by Alex Phillips, Vice President of Television at Bad Robot Productions, says it best:
Who Are The Transgender Characters In Marvel Voices: Pride?
Four original characters are created in Grace Freud’s “LGBT-D” story. First, there’s Pity Girl, aka Nora, who can hypnotize people with sad stories. “I have a lot of sad stories,” Nora says. Next up is Aphelion, or Reed. They have a primarily empty universe inside them, and they can freeze things. Then there’s Rex Ridley. He questionably chooses the name Good Arson even though Mr. Dunphy (Mr. D) -the organizer of the transgender support group- asks him to reevaluate. Lastly, Soph, not Sophie, introduces herself as Faceshopper and explains she can transform into anyone as long as she thinks they’re cool. Soph says this just before Spider-Man is slammed through the building wall, and Mr. D saves her from the impact. Naturally, she thinks this is “really, really cool” and takes his form.
