Anyone knows that any good RPG offers the player plenty of meaningful choices, and the Mass Effect series is no exception to this. Throughout the story, you’ll be met with difficult, meaningful choices that may affect the outcomes of things several games down the line. One such choice comes a good chunk into Mass Effect 1, where you find a rachni queen that Sovereign and Saren wish to use to their advantage. With this choice being difficult, you may wonder how to proceed. No need to worry though as, in this guide, we’ll help you choose whether to save or kill the rachni queen in Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

Should You Save or Kill the Rachni Queen in Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Starting with the Renegade option, choosing to execute the queen will see her attempt one more time to sway you by asking whether your fear of the rachni played into this choice. If you choose to go ahead anyway, she’ll attempt to use the Asari commando she’s controlling to free herself. Shepard will inevitably win though, and activate the acid bath, killing the rachni queen. The council won’t be happy with your choice, expressing that humans take joy in genociding entire races. You’ll also see a message discussing the cloning of rachni at the facility in Mass Effect 2, but with no evidence of the cloned rachni.

On the other hand, if Shepard chooses to save her with the Paragon route, she’ll express her gratitude before departing. When speaking with the council the turian councilor will express his concern that the rachni may overwhelm all races a few generations down. You can then choose to say that this time will be different and that the queen has learned from her past mistakes. In Mass Effect 2, you’ll receive a message personally from her, thanking you for choosing to spare her. She’ll also have an appearance in Mass Effect 3, something we’ll avoid for spoilers.
