Battle Royale mode has become a norm in today’s competitive gaming world. The massive success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds forced other developers to take a note in which direction today’s competitive gaming is moving and guess what it didn’t take too long for other developers to join the Battle-Royale bandwagon, in fact, some are going an extra mile to attract players towards them. Just take the case of Automaton Games – a new video game development studio settled in the UK – they just revealed their new game called “Mavericks: Proving Grounds” which is going to be a 400-player battle royale game.

Yes, you read it correctly – Mavericks: Proving Grounds is a Battle-Royale game that supports 400 players. The teaser trailer is available, but it doesn’t feature any gameplay, just a few sequences of the environments and surroundings. You can watch the trailer below.

Mavericks: Proving Grounds was earlier known as PROJECT X, the actual name announcement took place last weekend at PC Gamer event. According to the details revealed by the development team at the event, Mavericks: Providers Grounds will have a 12 KM squared living and breathing worlds.

Speaking to our friend at PC Gamer, Automaton’s James Thompson said: “This year, we’re coming out with our competitive, Battle Royale-style mode, which we hope will show that there is so much more for that genre than what people have seen today,”. “How much more we can do with the game world and the [Battle Royale] game mode as a whole.”

The game’s Battle Royale mode is scheduled to launch at some point in 2018 for PC. The full game is scheduled to launch in 2019 which will be a full-fledged MMO that will have support for over 1000 concurrent players in an “ultra-high fidelity world instance”. The official description of Mavericks full game reads: “It is set in a huge, photoreal, and highly dynamic environment, with strong character progression, social hubs, intelligent mission systems and global-scale player-driven narrative”
