Max Payne easily marks itself as one of the most iconic game series of all time, having not only become a great action series overall but essentially creating the concept we know as “bullet time”. While the third installment wasn’t created by the original team at Remedy Entertainment, even Max Payne 3 went on to be a great modern Max Payne game that should be experienced at least once. If you’re a fan of the series though, then today’s news should make you ecstatic. Through a partnership with Rockstar Games, Remedy Entertainment will be remaking both Max Payne 1 and 2! The official announcement was done through an investor press release which you can find here.

What Do We Know So Far About the Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake?

According to the press release, Remedy Entertainment will be developing the remake as a single title (meaning a package similar to something like Mass Effect Legendary Edition) for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Yes, that means there won’t be a current-gen version of the remake, though that’ll make sense in a moment. It will be developed using Remedy’s own Northlight engine, which was used for both Control and Quantum Break. The title will also be funded by Rockstar Games, which promises to provide royalties once the costs put into marketing and publishing have been recouped. As a final thing we know, the remake is currently in its concept development stage.

What can we glean from all this, you may ask? Well, Remedy Entertainment’s Max Payne 1 and 2 remake will likely be a few years out at least (talking 2025 at the absolute earliest) as the concept development stage means we’re still in pre-production. This means it’ll need to finalize pre-production which will take some time, complete production, post-production, and finally release to the public. As such, you should temper your expectations as we likely won’t be seeing any of it for quite a long time. That said, the fact that it’s happening at all is both a miracle and quite exciting.

I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Are you excited for the Max Payne 1 and 2 remake? Do you think the partnership between Rockstar Games and Remedy Entertainment will prove fruitful? Let me know!
