Game studio Remedy Entertainment has announced that it has reached an agreement with Rockstar Games to make remakes based on Max Payne 1 and 2. As per the agreement, Remedy will be developing the remakes of a single title for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Rockstar Games will finance the project, and it will be treated as AAA-game production.

Remedy Entertainment was the original developers of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Rockstar Games published the first two games, but Rockstar would switch the development of Max Payne to Rockstar Studios rather than Remedy. Since Max Payne 2, Remedy has gone on to develop the Alan Wake series and the critical acclaim Control game.

The Max Payne series is an action/third-person shooter set of games that centers on a former cop who lost his family. He then goes on a one-man crusade against the criminals who murdered his family. The franchise is known for involving a feature known as Bullet Time. In Bullet Time, time freezes around Max, and he can shoot his enemies while everyone is going slower than he is.

No release date was given for the Max Payne remakes. The project is still in the concept development stage, according to the announcement.
