Love Island‘s Maya Jama had a humble beginning, but she has amassed quite a fortune in so little time. Everything we know about ITV2’s newest presenter. After much speculation, producers of the reality TV show announced the Bristol native, Maya Jama, as its new host—she took over from Laura Whitmore.

Before the dream job, Jama was busy racking up accomplishments while showcasing her talent. She worked as an on-air personality on Radio 1. Love Island is not her first TV show as she formerly served as a host on Glow Up and Save Our Summer.

After a few years of amassing experiences, she found the opportunity she had been looking for when the producers approached her with the gig. Paul Mortimer, a prominent staff member at ITV2, admitted:

“Finding a new host to follow the wonderful Laura Whitmore was never going to be easy… I speak for us all when I say Maya will also bring a unique presenting style… We’re very pleased to have her on board.”

But what is there to discover about the 28-year-old presenter everybody seems confident about? Which begs the question, who is Love Island Maya Jama?

We’ve got a text, and it’s an exclusive video message from #LoveIsland’s @MayaJama!

Love Island’s Maya Jama Not Born With a Silver Spoon

She was not from a rich home, but Maya never allowed her background to put her back on the ground. She was born to dad, Hussein, and mom, Sadie. But her father was hardly around. Hussein spent most of his days in jail, yet, being without a father did not weigh down a young Jama, instead, she made a joke out of the situation.

At age 10, her mother met another man who played the role of a father, leaving Maya grateful for having a father figure. Life seemed smooth and easy until age 16 when she lost her boyfriend Rico in the crossfire of a gunfight. She lived with the hurt and partly blamed herself for some time.

Maya had moved to London as a teenager and was scampering for work to make ends meet. Eventually, she became a worker at Urban Outfitters, before moving to Jump Off. TV. Since then, she has landed jobs with different networks including MTV, Trace Sports, and Channel 5, where she co-anchored the MOBO Awards.

Amid her hosting chops, she is a beauty-brand owner. She launched her brand, MIJ, in 2020 and it has since expanded.

Does ‘Love Island’ Maya Jama have her Own Love life?

Love Island’s Maya Jama does not have a knight in shining armor at the moment. But she has been in a few committed relationships. Her well-known romance was with rapper, Stormzy. They started dating in 2016, and despite being praised for being a power couple, their romance ended three years later.

Next, she dated Ben Simmons, a basketball player. The duo began the year 2022, as an engaged couple after Simmons popped the question at his £ 3.7 million mansion in New Jersey. After more than a year together, they separated, citing long distance and their work schedules as the problem. There is a rumor of Drake being interested in her, but she has chosen to ignore it.
