What’s an adventure without friends to enjoy it with?
Dragon Quest XI is shaping up to be exactly the kind of classic JRPG experience the series is known for. It sports a turn-based battle system with a couple of unique twists. It’s story is a classic tale of a newly awakened hero on a quest to save the world, and its main cast is comprised of the exact sort of lovable misfits that make such stories worth experiencing. Dragon Quest XI’s party members appear to have quite a lot of personality this time around, perhaps even enough to place them among the series’ most memorable.
In Dragon Quest XI, there is a total of seven characters available for the hero to recruit. There’s Erik, the hero’s thieving and snarky best friend who sets aside his life of crime to help fulfill their quest. Next is Sylvando, a traveling entertainer with stylish moves and a sharp wit about him. The role of healer is being filled by Serena, a compassionate soul afflicted comedic clumsiness. Veronica is the party’s young mage who absolutely isn’t a child, so don’t treat her like like one. Jade the martial artist is there to hold the front line along with the hero. She seems unrivaled in her skills, but is she really just and honorable fighter? Rab rounds out the group with his sagely air and mystic techniques. While just about everyone in the group has more to them than meets the eye, Rab’s air of mystery is perhaps the greatest of them all.
As is to be expected, each character has their strengths and weaknesses, and players cannot have them all in their active party. Players will need to do their best to get to know their party members so as to party them up effectively as the game throws new challenges at them. There’s plenty of great characters to choose from here, so there probably isn’t any real way to go wrong. Check out the Dragon Quest XI website and the trailer below for more info.
Dragon Quest XI launches on September 4 for PC and PlayStation 4. The Nintendo Switch version is set to release sometime in 2019.
